Founder Profile: ECVS
Mark Crouch, Simon Monteith and Andrew Rushworth, New Zealand
What Does Your Company Do?
“ECVS designs and delivers electric commercial vehicles and the systems that make them work in the real world. We focus on replacing diesel in heavy transport through practical, deployable solutions such as electric trucks, electric power take-off systems, and electric trailer assist.
What makes us different is that we don’t just supply vehicles. We integrate the full system (vehicle, energy, and control software) so fleets can operate reliably and economically from day one.”
What Inspired You To Start It?
“The transport industry is under pressure to decarbonise, but the solutions being offered are often incomplete.
Vehicles, charging, and energy systems are typically developed in isolation, which creates real-world problems for operators such as cost, reliability, and range.
ECVS was started to fix that gap. The idea was simple: make electrification actually work in commercial transport, not just look good on paper.”
What Is One Win (big or small) You’re Celebrating Now?
“We’ve successfully deployed electric commercial vehicles in real operating environments and gathered multi-year operational data.
That might sound basic, but in this sector it’s significant because it proves the technology works outside of trials and theory.
It’s given us the confidence to move into scalable products like electric trailer assist and integrated energy systems.”
What Is One Lesson You Wish You Learned Earlier?
“Don’t assume the market will move as fast as the technology.
Even when the solution is clearly better, adoption takes time because customers are managing risk, not just performance.
The lesson is to focus as much on commercial models, financing, and ease of adoption as on the technology itself.”
How Do You Keep Your Energy Up On Tough Days?
“By staying close to the real-world problem.
When you see how much diesel is being burned every day and how quickly that can be reduced with the right solution—it keeps things very grounded.
Also, progress doesn’t come from big breakthroughs alone. It’s the steady accumulation of small wins that builds momentum.”
